Landfill

Recycle to protect the planet

With an increased awareness to help protect the earth, most of us are taking measures to ensure its safety.  All landfills eventually fail and leak  into the ground and surface water.  Considering that many landfills are located next to bodies of water (lakes, rivers, bays, etc) this is even more of a scare.  The amount of garbage that American household throw away each year is astonishing.  And, most of the rubbish is picked up from the curb and thrown into a landfill.  Even with the focus on recycling only 30 percent of what is recyclable material is recycled.  That is neglect on the part of Americans with 55 billion cans alone either littered, incinerated or sent to the landfill instead of being recycled.

Each person is responsible for 1.5 tons of waste each year.  Out of this waste there is a large percentage that can be recycled.  The idea is to start at home and in the office.  Call a waste recycling company that will bring you the containers to start recycling and will pick them up each week on selected days.  Normally this is done through the city or a private waste recycling company.

Many of the recycled materials such as paper and glass are recycled into new paper products and new glass products with a recycled seal allowing all those that are taking green measures to know they are purchasing materials that have been recycled.  For each bag of recycled materials you are saving space in the landfill and protecting the earth.

Waste recycling is simply programming yourself to toss the materials into the containers instead of the trash.  Considering that 75 percent of all of the rubbish that is being shoved into bags and picked up from the curb and discarded in the landfill is recyclable, it is vital that each of us begins to take the necessary measures to help keep the environment green and Mother Earth healthy.
